What a cookie actually is

A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to store, then sends back on later visits so the site can remember something about you, like whether you're logged in.

The one cookie this site sets

• fesocial_portal, set only when you log into the client portal at /brief. It keeps you signed in for up to 30 days (or until you log out), so you're not re-entering your passcode on every visit. It's marked HttpOnly and Secure, meaning it can't be read by page scripts and is only ever sent over an encrypted connection, and SameSite, meaning it won't be sent along with requests from other sites.

This is what's known as a "strictly necessary" cookie, it exists purely to provide a service you've directly asked for (staying logged in), so under UK PECR rules it doesn't require your consent, unlike advertising or analytics cookies would.

What this site doesn't use

No Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no advertising networks, no cross-site tracking. If that ever changes, for example if I add analytics down the line, this page (and how the site asks for consent) will be updated first.

Google Fonts

This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a direct request to Google's servers when the page loads. That request doesn't set a cookie on this domain, but it does mean Google can see standard request details like your IP address, the same as with any request to any website. More detail is in the privacy policy.

Controlling cookies

You can clear or block cookies through your browser's settings at any time. Since the only cookie here keeps you logged into the client portal, blocking or deleting it just means you'll need to log in again next time, nothing else on the site depends on it.
